The Everett Crimson Tide withstood the persistent Revere Patriots in the first round of the Greater Boston League Playoffs, churning out a hard-fought, 62-52 victory on Wednesday, March 31.
The Crimson Tide led 17-12 after one quarter and 32-21 at halftime before seeing their lead swell to 18 points late in the third quarter thanks in large part to back-to-back three pointers by John Monexant.
The fourth quarter was not a formality. The visiting Highlanders strung together an 11-3 run that cut the margin to four, 51-47, with under four minutes to go.
But the momentum did not remain with the Patriots for long. A three pointer by James Monexant from the left corner near the 3:20 mark greatly eased the pressure on the Tide. A couple of free throws by John Monexant and a lay-up by Edwin Francois restored the lead to 11 points, 58-47.
Revere cut the lead to six points but never got any closer. Strong defensive rebounds by James Monexant and Ralph Enayo and four made free throws helped steer the Tide to the 10-point win.
John Monexant led EHS with 17 points, while Francois and Juvens Louis added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
